Buy British on the Web

Mrs T : 1 November 2006

In case you have not noticed there really are many UK plus size retailers. Trouble is, all the good US shops seem to dominate the web. Have you found a good UK retailer that you like to use?

We want to you to help us support them so use the links here and take a look and buy British!

Most are for women but we want to hear about plus size mens shops in the UK. So guys, where do you buy?

We manufacture and retail wide calf fitting boots in hundreds of size options. Our experience in supplying most High Street fashion chains with footwear led us to realize that 'Theboofits'would be a valuable resource for women wanting high quality boots that actually fit on the calf.Take a look at www.thebootfits.co.uk

What a great list. Thank you for putting it together! I have been shopping with DUO for a few years but hadn't heard of the others. I would highly recommend DUO, they sell great quality boots and their customer service are really helpful as sadly I don't live near one of their shops :-(. I have just bought my sixth (whoops!) pair in the sale - at a bargain price though! What do you think?! http://www.duoboots.com/calf_fitted_boots/classic/lisbon

Julia, I look after this section of SizeNet and if I had known you were around then of course I would of added you on. When the Buy British links comes back, I will make sure you are on the list!

DO NOT BUY BOOTS THROUGH THE FITTED BOOT STORE RUN BY NICK RIOU.

There are hundreds of complaints online about the company: people ordering boots and never getting them. I ordered a pair of boots that eventually arrived, they were very substandard quality and despite immediately sending them back I never received a refund. I am now in the process of going through the small claims court.

I had the same experience. Ordered boots before Christmas and despite numerous phone calls, letters and emails I have heard nothing, and my boots have never arrived. There are hundreds of Nick's other customers who have also been defrauded of money. AVOID AVOID AVOID. They need shutting down.

Same experience. ordered December no response to numerous requests via email phone post
A little research will reveal many many concerns about this firm ,its owner and other firms. One to avoid I guess

Another furious customer, still have my money for boots ordered in December.
    They won't respond, avoid them

Did you pay fitted boot store by credit card? If so they might get you a refund - my M&S card acted on my behalf and I received a refund. Fitted Boot Store know exactly what they are doing when they take your money - they are using it to fund their cash flow problems. Shut them down and let an honest business person profit from what is fundamentally a great concept.

Very cross! I also have paid £100 for a pair of boots from FITTED BOOT STORE and have not received a thing. Thank you for this site. I am now in the process of getting my money back from my creit card company. How can we close this company down?

    Hi,

Yes, me too with the FITTED BOOT STORE. Initially I was quite happy with the products and service - my first order with them arrived within a couple of weeks, postage free, very good value and the boots were of good quality and as described. I was so pleased I actually sent them feedback to that effect! Sadly, a second order placed in May has never materialised, and the company appears impossible to contact. Get advice from Trading Standards, folks, they are very helpful. If more of us complain, something may get done.

I ordered a £90 pair of boots from the fittedbootstore.com in April. I have not received the boots. I also have not received any replies to my emails and they never answer the phone. I have written to them requesting a refund but will not hold my breath. I am now resorting to the trading standards and the small claims court.

I contacted Channel 4 and they informed me that they have removed their endorsement of the company and informed producers.

My advice - DO NOT ORDER FROM THE FITTED BOOT STORE

I too have been conned out of £50 by this company. I have set up a website dedicated to people trying to get money from this company and have found a phone number that is answered in the evenings. Have a look at www.fittedbootstore.co.uk - I have had enough!!

    DO NOT ORDER FROM FITTEDBOOTSTORE,com

Yip - they are unrealiable - the worst service I have ever had! In process of getting my money back through my credit card. Nightmare, nightmare, nightmare.....

This man seems to have headed up a string of internet companies all selling calf-fitted boots. As one closes, another seems to open. I have just been ripped off by the fitted boot store and am in the process of trying to get my money back through my banks visa disputes section or the small claims court if that does not work.

Nicholas Riou is/has also traded under the name of:

    - The Calf Width Co Ltd
    - http://www.fittedboots.com/

In the interest of fairness - type in each of those names into your computers browser and see what kind of reviews women across the land are giving him. It is a disgrace that he has been able to get away with this for so long. Report to trading standards, consumer direct, channel 4 (he is still using Gok Wan's Fashion Fix to secure trade) and Watchdog.

But even better - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!

ALL the people who have bought boots (unless you paid by cheque) over the internet from fitted botstore or any other and either never received the boots or your money back can claim it back via your bank - it doesn't have to have been a credit card - switch or maestro is covered too - just speak to your bank. I got my money back from the bank then they take it off him - still gutted tho as I actually wanted the boots...
