Well balanced eating starts with a good breakfast

Sarah Toovey : 26 October 2005

We've all heard many times over that a good copious breakfast to start the day is essential. I remember throughout my childhood being reminded that Breafast was the most important meal of the day.

But why exactly? I decided to find out more for myself.

Apparently it has been proven in studies that those who do not eat sufficient quantities for breafast, that is between 20% and 25% of their daily intake, run the risk of snacking in between meals. This in return favourises snacking between meals which leads in turn to weight gain.

An insufficient breakfast slows down cognitive performances and creative capacity meaning less work and concentration during the morning's activites. Mental calculations and simple operations as well as memory function capacities can become affected.

A recommended breakfast consists of a cereal product, a milk product, a fruit and a drink.

Partaking of a large breakfast, doesn't mean that the calofic intake for the day will be increased...if anything the opposite is the case as you are less likely to need to supplement the meal with morning snacking. This thereby reduces daily calorie intake along with less fat and simple sugars consumed.

With an ample breakfast, that is more than 20% of the recommended daily intake, it is frequently noted that BMI (Body Mass Index) is lower than in people who do not eat breakast or do not eat enough at breakfast time.

A good breakfast should contain glucose, in particular complex glucose, the consumption of a cereal based provider of glucose in the morning is highly recommended in order to recharge energy levels in order to attack the morning and last until the midday meal without snacking.

Of course, this meal is even better consumed and makes for an agreable moment, when possible, as a family before each one departs for school or work.
