Another UK magazine for the fuller figure - Plus

Mrs T : 17 February 2009

While starting to write this posting about a new quality UK plus size magazine, my attention was brought to another magazine by Glen at Full Figure Plus (thank you Twitter). So to start off with lets have a quick look at the UK published Love Magazine.

The reason it has been noticed is the front cover. I believe the current issue has a mostly naked Beth Ditto on the front. Not totally sure if they are in to plus size but seems worth look. They publish twice a year, a bit of extra info...

Love is the new biannual magazine from Katie Grand and Conde Nast. Love is more than just a fashion magazine. Love is a twice-yearly compendium of inspiration - for designers, for artists, for anyone looking for visual ideas; for anyone who loves fashion and design so much that they want to climb inside the heads of their heroes. Love doesn't follow fashion: it sets fashion's agenda.

LOVE people. LOVE character. LOVE fashion (obviously). LOVE fame. LOVE Beth Ditto more than you have ever LOVEd her before. LOVE the imperfect. You know it makes sense.

They have a website and a FaceBook fan page (have to be a member to view).

So on to the other magazine, the one I need to tell you about...

Plus magazine, again from the UK, will be a print styled downloadable magazine in PDF format aimed directly at the plus sized population - 16+ and aged 30+.

You tell the people who work on this have experience in print based magazines, mainly by the way things are laid out on the page, nicely done and very smooth.

The editor is Kate Thompson who has been a journalist for more than 20 years. She is experienced in writing on life style, health and womens issues.

From the preview that I have seen (yes, not ready for the general public yet...will be soon though!) there are going to be tons of features that will make this mag worth getting; True life stories, celeb interviews, lifestyle features, health, hair...well lots of stuff really.

Now I know that you guys are aware of an existing publication called 'Just as Beautiful'. Is there space for another magazine? Well yes of course there is! Yes! Magazine closed down many years ago and to be honest there has been nothing since to fill the gap. How many magazines are there for dress size 16 and under? Loads!. So for the moment us plus sized ladies now have two to look at.

As I get more information from the publishers, I will pass out updates and links...stay tuned!

Plus looks great - can't wait to see it. It is unfortunate, that more designers and magazines do not embrace full figured fashion, with beautiful plus size models.

Jeanne, you are right - many fashion sites say they cater for the plus size but you never see plus size models. So how do you know the clothing you want will look right for you? Be nice to see examples of the clothing on plus size models. Sounds simple.

Having recently created a plus-size fashion website I have to agree with the other posters that there is a distinct lack of plus-size coverage within the media generally. Simply typing plus size in Google confirms this as most of the results are in the US, where the Plus Size movement seems to have much more momentum.

I for one am keen to redress this balance and am currently looking for articles to publish within out site. If anyone is interested, please contact us at info@plus-size.me

How cool. I am a plus Designer and i predict an increase in plus fashion. In demand, and in the fore front. How wonderful.

I agree there is a rise in plus size fashion but a lack of designers.

I would like to make all aware that the (all new and shiny)BGP Magazine is winging its way to the general public very soon! The magazine has had a facelift and is catered for plus size women and men (and you will be pleased to know it is published within the UK) The magazine is aimed at real women and men and doesn't feature any model below a dress size 20 , just to prove that Big IS Beautiful! Please keep an eye out for our magazine as it's a positive platform for size awareness and acceptance.
If you are interested in the magazine or would like to pre-request a copy, please email info@bgpmediagroup.com
